41º south aquaculture has come a long way since the building of the fish farm started in 1998. The idea was to establish a green fish farm. After a couple of years of hard work and a lot of sweat, Ziggy with the help of Ben accomplished the near impossible to operate and run a recirculated aquaculture system through a natural wetland, which means it isn't a drain on any water system and doesn't dump any waste into the wild it actually cleans the river. The 10 acre wetland on the property, serves as a foundation of the recirculation system. An aquaculture technology that purifies and recycles water for reuse.

The water from the tanks and ponds will flow into a wetland, created by the construction of a levee bank in an existing flood area at the bottom of the farm. Native plants are encouraged to remove dissolved contaminants and re-oxygenate the water through photosynthesis. This water is then returned back to the tanks for re-use.

The wetland acts as a natural 'biofilter'. It has already attracted many native fish, frogs, birds and platypus.

An on-side green house is planned to use as a aquaponics facility. The nutrient-rich water which is produced from the fish farm is very suitable for plant growth. In hydroponics beds, plants remove a large quantity of nutrients from the water, reducing ammonia and nitrite levels and rendering the water suitable for distribution back to the fish farm operation.
